Description
🌍 Origin & Background
Grapefruit originated in the Caribbean, believed to be a natural hybrid of sweet orange and pomelo. Today it is cultivated extensively in India, USA, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, and Israel. The essential oil is primarily obtained from the fruit peel, a valuable by-product of the juice industry.
🍊 Plant Description & Raw Material
The grapefruit tree is a medium-sized evergreen producing large yellow-to-pink citrus fruits. The oil is concentrated in microscopic glands within the outer peel (flavedo). Oil yield and aroma profile depend on fruit variety, ripeness, and extraction technique.
🌀 Extraction Method
Grapefruit Essential Oil is obtained by cold expression (cold pressing) of the fresh fruit peel. This method preserves the oil’s natural citrus aroma and volatile compounds.
